Illicit Exposure
Illicit exposure is the degree to which an address's funds originate from or connect to sources linked to criminal activity, whether directly or through intermediary hops.
Illicit exposure reframes AML risk from a binary flag to a proportion: what share of a balance traces to categories like darknet markets, mixers, scams, or sanctioned entities, and how many hops away those sources are. Direct exposure is one transfer removed; indirect exposure sits several hops back. Our platform quantifies this with an exposure breakdown by category and hop count, built on multi-hop fund-flow tracing, and condenses it into the address risk-score. That lets a firm apply a risk-based approach, clearing low-exposure deposits automatically while routing high-exposure ones to enhanced review.
