Taint Analysis

Taint analysis quantifies the proportion of funds in an address that originate from a given source by propagating that source's share through the transaction graph.

Taint analysis follows value forward from a source of interest — a hack, a sanctioned address, a mixer — and estimates what fraction of a downstream balance descends from it. It relies on fund-flow tracing through the transaction graph, applying an accounting model such as poison, haircut, or FIFO to decide how mixing splits taint across outputs. The result feeds directly into an exposure breakdown: instead of a binary tainted or clean, you get a percentage of value linked to each risky category. Because different models yield different numbers, taint results are always reported alongside the tracing method used.
