On-Chain Label

An on-chain label is a descriptive tag attached to an address, cluster, or contract that names the entity or category it belongs to.

An on-chain label is the readable name layered over an anonymous address: Binance deposit, Tornado Cash, a specific NFT contract, a sanctioned entity. Labels come from entity attribution, known deposit-address patterns, contract metadata, and observed behavior, each carrying an attribution confidence value. They are the vocabulary of blockchain analytics — a counterparty graph is only useful because its nodes are labeled, and an exposure breakdown is only meaningful because it groups value by labeled category. Without labels, tracing produces a web of hashes; with them, it produces a story about identifiable services and actors.
