Layering

Layering is the second stage of money laundering, in which illicit funds are moved through complex chains of transactions to obscure their origin.

After illicit value enters the system, layering piles on transfers, swaps, cross-chain bridges, and mixer hops to separate the money from its source before it is integrated into the legitimate economy. In crypto this often appears as peel chains, rapid token swaps, or routing through privacy tools. The countermeasure is to reconstruct the path despite the noise. Multi-hop fund-flow tracing on our platform follows value across layered hops and chains, while the exposure breakdown attributes each portion to categories such as mixer, exchange, or sanctioned source, so a layered deposit still resolves to a meaningful risk-score.
