FATF

The Financial Action Task Force (FATF) is the intergovernmental body that sets international AML/CFT standards, including the recommendations applied to virtual assets.

The FATF issues the 40 Recommendations that most jurisdictions translate into national AML law. Its virtual-asset guidance introduced the VASP definition and extended the Travel Rule to crypto transfers, shaping how exchanges screen counterparties and share originator data. FATF does not regulate firms directly; it evaluates countries and publishes grey and black lists that affect correspondent access. Compliance teams map FATF expectations onto concrete controls. On our platform those controls become API primitives: address risk-score, KYT transaction screening, sanctions screening, and multi-hop fund-flow tracing that together evidence the risk-based approach FATF recommends.
